YEDI Incubator Now Accepting Applications
August 30, 2018
York Entrepreneurship Development Institute (YEDI) is a charitable organization (no. 81209 5735 RR0001) whose mission is to provide top-tier business education and mentorship to innovative entrepreneurs from any sector or industry in order to build and accelerate successful businesses and efficient not-for-profit organizations. YEDI is committed to ensuring that ideas with high impact are not lost due to lack of knowledge during the start-up process. YEDI guides innovators to refine their ideas and create tested proof of concepts that are attractive to investors and will benefit Canadian society.
Upon graduation the entrepreneurs receive formal certification from The Schulich School of Business (York University) and/or YEDI, and the opportunity to pitch to potential investors, including our own Venture Fund.
YEDI accepts 15 entrepreneurs per cohort. An Expert Committee comprised of industry experts and partners will be responsible for evaluating applications based on set criteria.
Entrepreneurs need as many opportunities as possible to showcase their companies. Upon successful completion of the accelerator program, YEDI students will present their businesses and non-profits at the exclusive Venture Fair and pitch for the opportunity to receive up to $500,000 in funding from YEDI’s own venture capital fund, up to $30,000 of equity-free seed funding, as well as potential financing from other venture capital firms, angel investors and direct funding by banks.
The Venture Fair provides a concrete opportunity for fellows to showcase their business plan, models, and milestones to an investor audience, as well as create industry partnerships that will take their venture to the next step in development and success.
Accepted students undergo a free, intensive 16-week program, including formal academic lectures by Schulich Executive Education Centre instructors, workshop-based training in entrepreneurship, and mentorship by key industry leaders. At the end of the incubator, entrepreneurs will have a professionally developed business plan, an executive summary, and a proper business model that is ready to pitch and potentially bring to the market. Upon successful program completion, participants receive a formal institutional certification from The Schulich School of Business (York University) & YEDI.
YEDI is sector agnostic and will consider start-ups from any industry.
All sessions are conducted at the Schulich Executive Learning Centre; all work facilities are located at the York University campus in Toronto.
Program graduates are eligible for up to $30,000* in seed funding upon successful program completion (*matching contribution required).
This funding is intended for early-stage opportunities in the Start-up validation stage, when the scientific, technical and commercial merit, as well as the feasibility of the applicant’s product or service has been determined.
