Decolonizing & Bridge Building: Indigenous Peoples in Social Enterprise

This two hour workshop, led by Krista Bissiallon, will explore heart-work in relation to social entrepreneurship in both a historical and modern context. The interactive nature of this workshop will allow space and time for participants to collaboratively uncover strategies for better, informed engagement with Indigenous people throughout Ontario.

Through thoughtfully guided conversations, participants will leave with a better understanding of:

– Indigenous knowledge in relation to social enterprise;

– Diverse perspectives on social enterprise, social economies, and;

– An increased capacity for awareness and bridge-building within community in a good way.

Bio of presenter:

KRISTA BISSIALLON is Anishinaabe kwe from Bawating with roots in Mississauga First Nation. She is a graduate of the Community Economic and Social Development program at Algoma University and continues to live in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Since graduating, Krista has worked in various avenues of community development with a strong focus on supporting young people doing change work in her community. Currently, Krista is Algoma Regional Lead of Youth Social Infrastructure, co-founder of Young Leaders Circle and co-project manager of Northern Lights Collaborative. Krista is inspired by the good work of other young people in her region, and brings her passion for people, learning, social justice and community development to her own practices.
